The ART

Just last weekend, I enjoyed a lovely dinner together with G's family at The ART, which stands for Assumption Restaurant for Training. It's his family's second time there, while it's my first. Missed out on the first time round because of work obligations, so I was excited to head there after G told me how good the food was. It's located near Assumption English School & Boy's Town, so it's not that inaccessible, however with a car, it's definitely easier! :P

It felt like a surprise find, without the schools. The restaurant looked nice & simple, and offers alfresco dining options too. We opened a bottle of wine to share, had a 3-course dinner waiting for us!

No fancy pictures, just snapshots from my iPhone! (:

Starters began with Baked Pumpkin Soup with Chinese Chive Dumpling. The soup was really really delicious & creamy! The proportions of pumpkin & cream were perfect to make this soup so delectable. Everyone polished it off their plates, and the dumpling was quite a nice touch to the starters!

Main course was an option of Codfish with Sea Urchin Sauce or Chilled Beef with Mushroom enhanced Shallot Sauce. I went ahead with the beef since I wasn't a fan of Sea Urchin, while G chose the codfish. They didn't state which cut of beef they used but it almost tastes like a tenderloin, juicy & tender, my favourite cut of beef! They cooked it with a shade of pink towards the middle, just nice for people who prefer it medium well done. The sauce goes on well with the beef, and the mushrooms were really flavourful on their own too. Love the mushrooms! On the side was also potato slices stacked together and baked (I think!). Tried a bit of the cod fish, but I think I prefer my Chilled Beef! :P

A special dessert was served that night. Fusing Chempedak & Creme Brulee together, this makes for an extraordinary pairing! It was pretty good coming from someone who doesn't really like Chempedak, but it became a little too sweet towards the end. We were also served Coffee or Tea to end off the meal.

We had a complimentary serving of Macarons when we liked their Facebook page! :P Loved it! It's simple in its taste and comparable to macarons from Canele! TWG macarons had a bit more depth in it with it's flavour, but they definitely had to make it worth the prices we pay hehe. I haven't had a chance to try famous macaron offerings from Pierre Herme or Laduree, but I can't give a good comparison. But I loved it and I think it's enough! (:

The ART opens for lunch and hi-tea from Mondays to Fridays, but special bi-monthly evenings will be organised with guest chefs coming in to cook. The guest chef of the night - Kelvin Low cooks for establishments like Jurong Birdpark, Singapore Zoo & Night Safari. What touched me was the earnest and sincere service of the students of Assumption Pathlight School. The students were helping in the food preparations, and the waitering services for the night. I appreciate such a platform and opportunity for the students to get hands-on experiences with actual dining services. Thumbs up to everyone! It was a good experience with genuinely good food. Don't come here expecting it to be a fancy experience, but take away all expectations and be part of the student's learning experience (:

Be above

It really hasn't been quite a good week for me. One would think that coming into a business alone might not have to face interpersonal relationships that might frustrate you but I was proven sorely wrong. To make it as a business, there are essential relationships you have to take on. Relationships with suppliers, collaborators, advertisers, and most importantly, customers. No matter what business you go into, you would have to deal with people. One can only wish for a strong supportive group to work with, but one can't always have it all.

It's despicable when people try to take ill gains for their own benefits, and lie to me. Lying to me is the worst part. It's almost the ultimatum, the last straw. I take offence in people lying to me and as an insult because it only proves that they think I am really that stupid. Well, I guess it's not just enough for you to be lazy. You have to be despicable, resort to underhand means, pathetic and disgusting. Yup, all in one package.

People who know what I'm truly talking about have been warning me to not go on, but I completely disregard it and continue to stress myself out further. I guess it's time to put a foot down and say no more.

It seems like as I move further in into this industry, I start to uncover the ugly hearts beneath that seemingly sweet facades. I can only be thankful for the kind people I've met despite the black sheeps among them all. People who go that extra mile to help me, I can't be more thankful for your presence in my life. Fame can change people, indeed, and the test of character comes when you get popular. If you can remain grounded and down to earth, humbled and kind, then you get my full respect. Don't aim to fly high if you can't handle it.

Just a couple of rants that I needed to get out and have been bothering me for a while. No path in life is easy, but we can only pray for the strength to get through it all. Instead of looking at these unfortunate and unpleasant events in my life right now, I should choose to focus on my blessings and the supportive people around me. Always tell yourself to be above them. No matter how much they try to bring you down, be above.

ShinYuu: Japanese Buffet!

My outfit for a Friday date with love to catch Despicable Me 2. I love love love the minions! They make me really happy. There was so much hype and build-up before the movie with the release of trailers and songs and whatnot. Too cuteee! On the hunt for a minion plushie teehee to hug to sleep!

Can't stop raving about the dress! If you have an eye for high quality items, this is your best buy. The quality of Lace & Ebony's manufactured apparel is honestly quite important to me and I'd seek the best fabric that works for the dress, and we also ensure that by working with the best manufacturers. My mom loves the Garden print and the subtle floral prints suit her really well. I love the blossom one better because I'm into vibrant colors, and this fabric hits the spot for me. So happy that Pearlyn & I got this fabric because this was almost OOS for us to use.

On a very blessed day, we manage to use the car to go for a shoot! I'm not very pro-taxi to be more thrifty and channel these savings into good food and some indulgent shopping. You'll only see me on a cab when I'm severely late :P So after a quick shoot, we let ourselves go with a... Japanese buffet! My favourite! Honestly the only buffet I don't mind going again and again.

This time we headed to ShinYuu, a place that G brought me for my birthday a few years ago. It's a little obscure for Easties, but definitely worth the trip down. We paid about $45 each for lunch. The dinner is slightly more expensive and offers more, I think. I saw my dearest Sweets there!! It's my nickname for Peiwen, one that we've given each other during our internship days just to spite one colleague. Hahaha. Happy because I haven't seen her for the longest time!

The food needs no introduction. The pictures can do the talking, teehee! Just a few snippets of what we ordered, and of course, spam the sashimi!!

Aww.. I really wish I can have your life little cutie.

Get behind the camera!

So yes, like the title says, Get behind the camera! All photos are lovingly credited to G because he didn't need to take care of our belongings anymore since it's a cafe shoot this time and he can relax and bask in the aircon, teehee! It's definitely a comfortable shoot for everyone, being out of the crazy sun & heat. Thank you for the gorgeous photos love <3

Pearlyn from Pearlavish and I have been working on some co-manufactured apparels together and we've decided to do a collaboration shoot together with Melvin of Multifolds and Rachel Wong at Letoile Cafe! :) It's my first time having so many people on board a shoot though, and it's a little less tiring because I get a few mins of breaks here and there when it isn't my turn to shoot. Everyone was really lovely to shoot with and I'm thankful for this opportunity to try new ventures and grow Lace & Ebony.

SO UNGLAM hahaha

Rachel is so pretttyyyy! So happy to have her onboard this collaboration!

I love this backdrop the most! And the pictures taken at this table were really pretty!

The lone and scared fighting fish... :/

Melvin's gear for the day! It's an amazing camera, and if I had $1k+ to splurge on a camera, this is definitely one to get! If only!!

Hahaha... G capturing me capturing a photo Melvin captured.

G & I stayed on for lunch while everyone made their way to their individual appointments. This was his Smoked Duck Sandwich! We wanted truffle fries but it wasn't available that day booo!

My Tom Yum Pasta that was delicious! Good and simple fusion of asian & western elements. G takes such amazing pictures, doesn't he!!! :DD

Hello darling, I love you. Thank you for being so patient to sit through the whole shoot and spend a lovely afternoon with me just chilling in this quaint cafe <3

If my hair can remain like this forever... I'd be so content! Alas, good things don't last!!! Hahaha.

:D

A proper picture of the cafe in the afternoon. Letoile Cafe really is quite lovely! The obscure setting makes it all the more quiet, and you can take your time to have your tea and read a book here if you'd like! Thank you Letoile, for letting us shoot at such a charming cafe and being so gracious when we were shooting all over the place, teehee!

The final pictures!

The collection (featuring the Rae Floral Frock - I kept both colors cos I love the fabric and the cut so much! Lots of raves on Instagram when I put up my ootd too heehee!) has just been launched here:

Part II of the lookbook will be launched next week! I can't wait to show what manufactured apparel we're launching next week. And yes, I've kept them again :S Recently I've been keeping more and more of the manufactured pieces (especially the ones that I sourced for and 'created'), especially the ones from last month onwards. Whooops! I just love the ones I've had a hand in creating especially more. <3
